  1. Update on performance: The large town area certainly needs work performance wise as do some of the 3D sections. Still, I’ve enjoyed playing through again on Switch.

Original post: For those only interested in performance see that section but tLDR: The game looks nice in 2D ok in 3D and frame rates are around 30fps with a few frame pacing issues in 3D areas but I found them acceptable. Overall it’s a pass performance wise. Obviously, it’s still the Switch version but better than I’d thought.

Excited to bring you this review of The Plucky Squire on Switch. I had finished the game on PC and waited for the Switch release to see how the performance there was. What do you think of this one? Edit – I noticed about 3 seconds of PC footage crept in to the final video at one point. Rest Assured 99.99% is Switch. Mark

  2. This is a game I’ll gladly get on my switch physical copy , I’m ok with it running at 30 fps Shyt don’t bother me !

  3. This game was very charming, it's a shame the game is holding itself back so hard. So much pointless hand holding (even in adventure mode) and constant gameplay interruptions. Many times you could only play for a few seconds before being interrupted by a dialogue, gates closing/opening, etc..

  4. I like how the sword is a fountain pen nib. Such a great detail that leans into the creative aspect of the game.

  5. For now it’s barely playable on switch. I strongly regret buying it there, and not on pc or ps5

  6. Game is full of bugs, like character becoming stuck, and a few quest bugs.
    Hopefully gets patched soon.

  7. Thank you for the video. I've been looking forward to this game since it was announced. Glad it reviewed well. Other places have bashed the performance in their reviews on Switch.

  8. The performance and graphics are trash on switch. Combine that with a few bugs and I highly recommend getting it elsewhere. I'm a Switch fanboy but I asked for my money back and bought it on PS5.

  9. "It's a technical marvel"
6:19 frame rate literally dipping below the 20s
7:50 I'm thankful they got it running *okay* on Switch

  10. Game completely breaks at the stealth tutorial. All buttons used for controlling the characters stop working. I thought my joy cons crapped out on me but they work fine with everything else. Quick research shows that this is a common experience. Apparently deleting the game and redownloading it will fix but progress is lost in the chapter. Needs to be fixed

  11. “I won’t tell you how he kicks out of the book” a few seconds later “You are able to move between the pages with a gauntlet” 😅😂

  12. Completely loving everything about this game.

And it's about time a game developers added in the ability to skip boss battles; for non-gaming experts missing out on a lot of a game because you can't get past a particular early boss battle (or just don't want to do it) is very soul destroying IMHO

As for the performance, I am finding some of the story narration a bit laggy and, on many occasions, the page turns before the sentence has been fully revealed and even (in some cases) breaking with half a word missing

  13. The one weakness of this game is that it clearly embraces all ages. Much of the game design follows genres that dont require the ability to read, and the accessibility options speak to young players who wouldnt be able to read, but they include a singular game mechanic that requires a reading ability. It would have been nice and probably fairly simple to implement if they had included a reading accessibility tool. This could have enabled an arrow that pointed to words you needed to interact with and highlighted said words or blank spaces so the non reader could know what they needed to grab and where to place it. Such an option would have removed the reading barrier that keeps young players from playing this game unaided.

  14. To be honest, this isn’t a game I ever considered. However, after seeing this with all of its charm, I definitely want it to play with my daughter.

  15. Since it was announced (a while back)… I thought it looked amazing. Must pick up this September for me

  16. Performance seems very choppy. Getting this for the Switch 2 instead.

  17. Gonna disagree on the Switch performance. I noticed frame drops aplenty in my playthrough, as well as low resolution blurriness. And I’m not usually a stickler for performance.

I personally wouldn’t recommend the Switch version until they patch it.

  18. I had some real frame rate problems when I played through it yesterday. I was playing on the switch on the TV. Mostly it was handleable, but the frame lag got so bad during a late game mini game sequence that I just couldn't play it, it's very timing and rhythm dependent. Fortunately they gave the option to skip mini games in the pause menu so I just did that.

  19. Charming looking game! Definitely gonna get it sooner than later.
    P.s I'm already a book worm lol

  20. What's up with some of the footage happening on a splinter cell looking Switch? Does that happen in the game or was that just editing for the video?

  21. Thankfully there is an update coming that will allow the option to disable all hints and handholding. If you want a proper challenge it is best to wait for this update. It has been confirmed as coming from the developer.

I never have a problem with any game if they give options to make it harder or easier. Accessibility options can never be a bad thing in my book. (pun intended).

As long as they are optional I can’t see why anybody gets upset over it.

It’s like people complaining about Re Pop mode in Lolly Pop Chainsaw remaster when the original gameplay mode is still there as well uncensored..

  22. I love that it’s a shock that the switch can run this simple game decently. It’s such a shit console lmao

  23. I'm really enjoying this game so much. I've had a boatload of stress in my life lately and this has been my escape. It's so relaxing and fun. Every time something cool happens I'm just like "I love this game!". 😂💜 This is gonna be an underrated GEM. I hope people give it a chance. It fully deserves it.

  24. I should of bought an Evercade console instead and saved myself money on buying a Switch as all it seems good for now is indie, Megadrive and SNES releases 👎

  25. Still gonna wait till Feb for the physical, though. Like I said before, can't risk getting into anything so close to Echoes. So, I'm happy to wait for this one. Feb does feel like a long way off, though. Ooh, tough decisions!

  26. Amazing! It runs well on Swicth (breathes a sigh of relief). You know what I love about this channel? You guys manage to give a thorough review without spoiling the game. I watched the IGN review of this game on PS5, and it just felt like they gave away too many unnecessary moments from the game. You guys seem to strike just the right balance.

  27. I'm glad it's not as much of a Zelda clone as initial looks seemed like on the surface. I know a lot of people love those smaller "almost, but not quite" games to fill in, but I just find it annoying when a developer does a copy/paste.

  28. Didn’t know this came out! Saw the trailer awhile ago and already fell in love- gotta get this and then give it to my lil nephew- thanks switchup
