Here's my theory:
Minecraft it blocky and pixelated. You can't really convey human emotions like you can in real life, like dead pools eyes using CGI, Miles Morales' eyes, even Toby McGuire in OG Spiderman taking his mask off constantly. It's very hard to have any kind of serious scene's when you're watching Minecraft skins. Sure, you can animate them properly and have emotions but why do that when there's already hundreds of content creators with that same style. You can't just animate a movie that has the same art style as, say captain sparkles does. I mean, they could've went with the direction of Tell Tale games… But another problem arises. Why watch a movie on rails when you can just get a game a choose which direction you want the movie to go?

Honestly not gonna lie I like the animated version more it’s a lot more classic and it has a lot more vibrant colors and it actually makes sense like if you’re going to make a Minecraft movie at least make it animated, not trying to be rude here for anyone who actually likes the IRL version but in my opinion I really like the animated version it’s really classic and even though I was only born in 2010 I know Minecraft so well and I feel like that would be a lot more better. Like I’m just saying the animated version has a lot more life and actually feels like a classic movie, I feel like it just has more Minecraft bits in it than the real life version. So in conclusion I feel like the animated version should actually be it and they should actually make it the movie instead of having people in it they can still keep the voices and the same actors just keep it animated I feel like that would be a lot better for like kids and adults who know it like ever before, it just feels classic.😊

I love the animated one so much better. The movie could have started with the real people who turn into their minecraft blocky person once they go through the portal. Keep the voice overs. And the portal should be purple instead of blue. Animated is better and more like the game.

Legit just fix the movie by KEEPING the actors and Jack Black in (Jack's voice fits Steve well in my opinion, even if physically he doesn't appeal much), but use thier characters for motion capture of normal cubic characters and thier voice acting.
