  1. This game better than gow, sorry god of war need to step it up. And I’m saying this as fanboy since god of war 1 2 and 3

  2. So glad you made this, im in the process of playing god of war ragnarok. Downloaded black myth, loved the graphics but gameplay style and character personalities were boring. God of war ragnarok, and ghosts of tshumi much better. Black myth is over rated.

  3. wow you really know this game and get the essence of it

btw finally (in the last year making this game) the studio has grown to 130 people, but you are right, most of the time, they were a small team

The core members (less than 20) were originally from Tencent. About ten years ago, they made an online ARPG game (something similar to Genshin Impact, but with a Journey to the West theme) that was a hit in China. However, it didn't end well because they had different expectations for the game than the management team.

They left Tencent, started Game Science, and after ten years, created Black Myth: Wukong.

  4. Sun Wukong in Chinese mythology is actually the God of War. Look it up. So the game being like the God of War makes sense. It is nothing like a Fromsoft game at all. Its challenging but not stupid challenge like Souls game.

  5. Love the game, but there is alot of bullshit design in it. After 90 hours, ive seen more bs in this game than any other. Shit put in for nbo ohter reason than to irritate the player, waste their time, and annoy them. The pathetic stun locks from any attacks, over and over. All enemies have hyper armor, and 15 hit combos, along with bs tracking. Button presses not coming out, time and time again. Useless spirits, just like Elden ring. Useless armor, just like all Souls games. Pathetic damage output, unless you make the one shot builds you see online. Games a slog a lot of the time. Pathetic rewards for awful boss fights. Yellow Loong…..

  6. I don't think you can call Game Science an indie Developer, they have China to fund them. They're pretty much AAA

  7. It's not about the difficulty of the game, it's about whether it's fun or not…

  8. wukong is a chinese game full of chinese intelligence an using AI technology to design the boss. challenge for your brain 😅

  9. I haven't yet played this game because I do not have a PS5 and I am waiting for the release of PS5 pro and decide whether I am going to get one depending on whether the price of PS5 pro is the same as the current price – if the leak about $100 more is true, I am not going to buy it.

However, I watched tons of gameplay videos of BMW for nearly more than 50 hours from many different players finishing the first 3 chapters.

Here are my impression on the game:
    The Pros:
    1. The jaw dropping opening introduction with seamless transitions between cutscene and gameplay I have never seen before in video game.
    2. Not just the opening, most of the transitions between gameplay and cutscene are seamless without a loading screen in between to break the transitions.
    3. Guard break is able to knock off or break the shield of shield holding mobs. In other words, shield holding mobs have two different combat animation styles, with a shield and without a shield.
    4. The implementation of environmental dusty effects on clothing like the snow covered outfits or the recently implemented dusty clothing texture effect on Monster Hunter Wild.
    5. Unique and stylish boss designs but they are still lagging behind FromSoft designs like the Grey Wolf Sif (1 phase boss), Lothric Younger Prince (2 phases boss) or Sister Friede (3 phases boss) etc. However, no FromSoft boss combat animations are able to beat the Chinese dragon combat animation in BMW – just my opinion.
    6. Interesting animation ideas and the beautiful interactive chapter summary mural at each chapter ending.
    7. The introduction of an iconic AI controlled party member in Chapter 3.
    The Cons:
    1. As a non-open world game, it is better to use environmental elements like huge rocks or dense foliage etc. to cover up invisible walls. In other words, the map is better to design in such a way that a blocked area should be obviously seen as a blocked area not an area blocked by an invisible wall.
    2. Only one weapon of choice and without character creation – the one weapon of choice could be restricted by the monkey king canon. However, it is still possible to allow players to design different looks of a monkey (short, tall, chubby, skinny, the so-called diversity) or even choose a gender of the monkey since the main character in the game is not the monkey king. Therefore, why not let players create a monkey queen. On the other hand, even with the spirit spells and transformations, only seeing a staff swing is not as refreshing as seeing different weapon styles.

In conclusion, to me the next challenge for Game Science is open world with character creation. Unfortunately, from what I heard about their next BM projects, it seems not likely to have character creation simply because of the fixed main character design. I still hope that they have a way to get around with it to implement character creation.

  10. If this game had hdr…omg ! It is souls like hard for sure. Still a very good game.

  11. Chinese culture is cool…except for the whole communism thing they still got goin on. But this game is a visual masterpiece and insanely challenging, while not being impossible. Keep progression when you get destroyed by the same boss for an hour is also a bonus, doesn't feel like such a slog.

  12. Its definitely a souls like, its alot harder then god of war when not on give me god of war difficulty

  13. Trick is , this games forces you to be better, play better and play smarter. It's like in a movie Day after tomorow , the more times you die , the better you become . It's best game I have experienced in my life .

  14. This is not a souls-borne game…please stop calling it souls like just because it’s hard…I have over 1000 on eldenring, over 800 hours on both god of war 2018 and 2022 and have completed Black myth Wukong already (3 cycles) that is over 120 hours so far…this is an action game. Would you have called god of war 2018 or 2022 if they only had one difficulty setting (say the ‘give me god of war’ difficult) souls like game? It’s okay to ask your phone, tablet, computer on the difference so you are more informed. I had fun playing Black myth Wukong which was make with more than 100 people through out the years.

  15. I Playing Soul Like Games Will Have Pressure Feeling Once Death. But BMW I didnt Have That Feeling。BMW Difficulty is Depend Hidden Items

  16. The only FromSoft game I played is Sekiro, another is Nioh, TBH I dont think I enjoy either of those games, I cant bear Nioh, and Sekiro I just pull through because the internet keep saying that it gets good once you get the hang of it. if those are Soulslike, I dont think this game is a Soulslike at all.

I played all the God of Wars and I feel this game is a lot more similar to the newer God of Wars, I died similarly frequently with God of War and this game, and the upgrade system feels similar too.

yes there are Shrines, but you dont loose experience or anything else when you die, and I think that is the major distinction, in Nioh and Sekiro, your special abilities are consumables, and if you use them and still loose, your odds of winning next time around is lesser because now you have less tools at your disposal. So my playstyle, and what I see most people’s playstyle, tends to play it safe, sneak in pokes between the openings of enemies attack and wont use anything else. This makes the combat boring IMO.

But this game dont punish you that way, the abilities are actual abilities that you can use as much as you want as long as you wait for the cooldown, same as God of War, so I actually frequently experiment with the abilities to see what works well with what boss, and that makes the combat really fun.

  17. I think we can call this a."Souls-Lite" instead of "Souls-Like" given how easy it is overall. Don't get me wrong, not as easy as something like God of War but maybe God of War on any other difficulty than "Normal".

  18. They started really small. They eventually grew to 140 devs, only after they got more and more attention. It's like the CEO said in interview. The first couple of trailers was mainly to get attentions from talented devs and lure them in.

  19. Thank you for all the GOW content but I stopped at "absolutely hates souls games". That is an L take bro, these are the only games that keep gaming alive. You git gud scrub and stop hating greatness. Wukong is a masterpiece in itself and definitely not a souls game but man…what an L take.

  20. If anything, it's closer to Sekiro or Bloodborne instead of Elden Ring. You upgrade your skills and you git gud instead of mere leveling of the character.

  21. I totally agree with you. I never played Soul serie, but i played some elden ring. And i watched my husband playing Soul. Wukong is very similar to elden ring but feels more rewarded if i put more effort in it. The dodge system is more fluent. It doesn't have the parry system as elden ring has, but it has the See through skills which make it more fun and maybe a bit easier to master.

  22. First time I saw a gow fan finally said Wukong is more Souslike (I'm not claiming it to be soulslike but it's more centered around Souslike it's for sure)

I'm not sure what stopping others to tell the truth. Are they jealous to find out that soulslike games are actually fun after playing wukong and they don't want to admit it?

  23. would you say this game cannot be played with just keyboard and mouse?

  24. The only thing that I miss in this game is the button pressing fights like that from god of war if this was implemented in black myth wukong man it would be 😮‍💨🤌🏻

  25. This game is not that hard to be honest, and that comes from a guy who doesn't have 5k hours in souls game, i play them occasionally, and i also did platinum for the game. There are like maybe 4-5 bosses that are actually a challenge, the rest are just there. The only souls feeling i get from this game is that you have bosses after bosses, everything else reminds me of god of war, even how you open and loot the chests is gow, the camera angles, everything. In the end i don't get it why do people have to compare this game to those two eventually, it's' a really good arpg in it's own, doing it's own things, inspired by those two games.

  26. i played elden ring and souls game…and i found that this game is not easy, but not hard

  27. I think this game is not a soul-like, the difficulty of this game is very much depends on whether you do try to understand and put a good use of the mechanic or not, different kinds of magic spells, rock solid, light + heavy counter attack before enemy's move, dodge, power point critical hit, pill, item, and even reset skill tree in shrine before the fight, all the elements combines variety of possibilities to counter different kinds of bosses. People posted videos of how they 0 damage kill some of the hardest bosses in this game, due to understanding the mechanics.
As a gamer myself, I hadn't played any ARPG or soul-like game before until this one, and after I studied a little bit of this game, bosses that people are complaining about, are not quite difficult for me.

  28. Umm…I've most definitely been living under a rock, 'cuz I've never heard of Life of Pi the game

  29. As someone who has played and platinumed dark souls 1, 2 and 3, sekiro, bloodborne, Elden ring, lies of p, lords of the fallen, and demon souls, this game is definitely tough but like all other similar games once you get the hang of the combat and enemy patterns it becomes a lot easier and enjoyable.

  30. I agree on what you said.. That's what I feel to lol.. not a souls type of players but I enjoyed while killing more boses

  31. I think it uses fewer people because triple-A games have a lot of redundancy of programmers and artists not to mention human resources, DEI officers, Marketing, Managers, etc. not to mention redundancies of those people… and there is always the problem of too much cook ruins the food

  32. Objectively, if you are getting “destroyed” for hours by the FIRST BOSS WHILE YOU ARE IMMORTAL , you should just forget about playing a video game ever again

  33. I completely agree with all your points. Personally, I found playing this game much more enjoyable than God of War Ragnarok or any Souls game. It offers a significantly more balanced experience, particularly in terms of the combat system.

In God of War, the combat feels tedious for some reason and lacks the addictive quality that I found in BMW. As for the Souls games, I struggled to get hooked on any of them. For instance, in Sekiro, I couldn’t even get past the first mini-boss. I even tried again after finishing BMW, but the combat system felt unnecessarily difficult. I find the parrying mechanic less enjoyable than dodging, and just the thought of having to retry a boss fight becomes frustrating. Ultimately, I ended up quitting the game.
