Pokémon have completely changed up the way they are going to think about doing remakes of legacy generations in the future, with the recent announcement of Pokemon Legends: Z-A. In this video, I’m going to dive into why I think this is the case.

I wouldnt mind seeing Johto with legends graphics, but honestly this video is a good perspective. I still need to bear shining pearl. But I didn't mind the remakes. Wish it wasn't chibi, that's my only gripe so far. I still want an open world Gen 2 game, Like a 3d open world johto merged with fire red an leaf green content.
Very late to the party but I see what you’re saying. Perhaps even the events of Kalos tie into the Events of Unova which is where Legends Z-A also composes these origins. (The kings garden had Reshiram and Zekrom hedges) so perhaps due to the secret weapon something may have changed the course of history and we as the player get to decide how it happened. And maybe the remakes are deliberately delayed to come for a switch 2 brand deal as well which is why it’s not announced
The let’s go games aren’t true remakes. And they aren’t main line. To be a true main line game they’d need to have the same capturing mechanics that the games have always had.
I was with you until you said BDSP is a good remake. They just slapped worst graphics onto the games and called it a day. How are you going to sit here and tell us that bs with a straight face. They were a downgrade from platinum
and we need megerna and furfrou lol (ik there is some gen 5 mons but you will probably be able to get them in z-a/gen10 that i speculate will come out in 2025-2027
They just need to make a games that’s all the gens 1-6 with Megas that you can go to one in any order but can only unlock a new one post elite 4 and it progressively gets harder I’m talking they’ve got lvl 100 perfect IV and EV Pokémon with items and after you win it all you face red whose a team of 6 legendary Pokémon
I would love to have faithful remakes of 1-5 gen rather than new games
ideally we get games where you can explore the whole pokemon world with your adventure starting in a new region instead of remakes. storage and data compression technology have advanced enough to make this an easy feat.
My main problem with the latest remakes, aside from the pokedex being limited. The Let's Go games departed too much from series norms, while BDSP didn't change nearly enough to set itself apart from what Diamond and Pearl did. One main benefit isn't even because of the game itself just the hardware it's running on.
FR/LG could've just been Red and Green with the mechanics introduced in Ruby and Sapphire, but it wasn't. We got meaningful post-game content. Heart Gold/Soul Silver added a whole new route. ORAS remixed the story and added a post-game. BDSP… overhauled the underground?
I feel like most generation rewrite the canon of previous games though? Those new (pr)evos in Gens 2, 3, 4, and 9 didn't exist in their OG games really
Going back to a region with another story from another character's perspective would be one way to handle this. I'll accept remakes from gen 1 forever, but I wouldn't worry about the newer generations as much as they have much weaker and less "classic" stories. Honestly I think the proper direction to go at this point is a blank slate following Ash's adventures in the anime starting with episode 1 in Kanto. Make a continuous series of games with our Pokemon following us all the way from that first game to the 9th (or by that time 10th generation). I feel Pokemon has done fairly poorly in supporting the idea of one grand adventure since the DS era, making the series feel fragmented and disjointed. Legends definitely aggravates this feeling for me, even if it is cool, they are more suited to be side titles or spin-off titles than the main attraction. I would take a break from releasing new rosters of Pokemon for these games and take some time and really work on the quality and lore of what is there across 9-10 generations. I would ensure that trading and porting our Pokemon forward through these games has wide support, not just using a server based system like Home or Bank or Pokemon GO but something local and physical that will last forever like a USB port. Create a framework for trading Pokemon backwards all the way to this new Kanto title as the new generations release with their expanded roster. Really utilize the idea of live/legacy support in a wholesome way that really no other game has or can take advantage of. This was the promise the series showed all the way back in the year 2000 and now is the perfect time to capitalize on that promise and make it a reality. It may not directly bring in money to do this, but I can absolutely promise it sets up another generation of lifelong fans like it did for us in the 90's.
Imo i think the 3rd version of the games is being saved for something in the future. Well back in the past during Arceus and Jewel of life was new movie i did think and hope someday they make a game focusing in arceus, which i never expect it will happen because i dropped that idea since i dont think they will do it, but now im really hoping more legends title is coming. The yellow version remakes was ok i wonder what will Crystal, Emerald and Platinum will be. Btw great video ✌️
We literally got BDSP alongside the first Legends game, we cannot use Legends ZA to prove/disprove how the remakes are going to be handled from now on…
Let's go were garbage
Bruh legends kyurem would be dope. Imagine the final boss is the original form with all 3 combined
The next pokemon game need to be open world and have lots of content and quests like the gen 9 games, i actually disagree with you, bdsp was not hated, despised, because it completely ignored the current battle gimmick and all the others for that matter. It was basically a re-skin of the gen 4 games. That is not good, it sold like hot cakes because of the humongous install base the switch has, but it's definitely a step in the wrong direction. I could do without "remakes" a la oras, or hgss, in favor of re imagining the regions like the legends game did. But please, no more faithful remakes
The biggest issue I have with BDSP is not it being a true to the original remake, but that it did not include the Platinum content and that the overworld sprites for following pokemon were lifeless. It could have been great if they'd just fixed those two things. All story events and Platinum content and just a little tiny bit more effort in the overworld sprites.
Pokémon designs get worse and worse
I would looove to see kanto and johto combined, just let me play as Ash
Pokemon has been following a pattern for years now and I think they will continue to do it this way.
Gen2 Remakes in Gen 4
Gen3 Remakes in Gen 6
Gen4 Remakes in Gen 8
Gen5 Remakes in Gen 10
Gen1 is the odd one out but with the rest following a pattern, I think this is what they'll keep doing. They'll release a new region, an enhanced version or DLC, and then a remake. Though in generations like 7 and 9, they'll release something new or different. This is what I believe at least. I've always expected Gen5 remakes in Gen10 and will expect Gen6 remakes in Gen12 if we ever get that far. (Hopefully we do lol)
Hello Galarian Gold,
just because I haven't seen this statement in the comments jet: Out of remakes I want to play the same map, story and bosses but with new mechanics, new pokemon and new features.
A "faithfull" remake is bad – and in my oppinone just sucks – and a port/emulator like the virtual console fill that way of playing much better, because it allowes people to play the old games without needing extra (old) hardware.
The explanation of multiverses from Pokemon:OmegaRuby/Pokemon:AlphaSaphier – as others mentioned already – is more then good enough for me to. Far from perfect story telling or world building, but good enough.
Greetings
Juy Juka
BDSP was almost like the old games with no newer extras so it wasn’t bad but people expected it to be on pair with never games. Personally I would take a heart gold soul silver remake for switch which is 1 to 1 like the old games but with bdsp graphics.
I feel like the lore could have been explained in bdsp easily cyntia's grandmom could've given us some lore we could have had dialga and palkia that would show us images in specific places so that we can make a story out of it etc
but they should have remade Platinum & made one game instead of BDSP or BDSP as one game & Platinum as the other; like the quality of Platinum is just waaaayyyy better…
BDSP was NOT a faithful remake. ORAS — was the last faithful.
I still want the let's go game series to continue
Can't wait for pokémon legends marshadow
I am really thankful for Pokémon Unite because they gave me Zeraora by winning 15 battles and why don't they do this with other Pokémon games like Pokémon Stars and Eclipse coming to Nintendo switch by winning the Pokémon League 15 times in a row and on your 15th champion battle win you will get Zeraora.
It is no about gen 6. Just like Legends Arceus wasn’t about Gen 4 at all. It just takes place there. That’s it, the rest is just wasting your time.
I personally feel that if they remade Pokemon XD added some features possibly and added more to the story, it would be a hit. But I feel that will never happen.
Or you know Gamefreak may hate Gen 5 and the next remake will be Sun and Moon
Please let me have a Jhoto remake or a legends version for it.
I think they should remaster fire red and leaf green for the switch. I grew up with blue, red, yellow and unfortunately life got in the way so I didn't get to enjoy anything after the 2nd gen. I've always wanted to see a remake/remaster of red and blue and I recently learned it was through Fire red and leaf Green. I want to play them, but I can't swing the cost to buy the game and the GBA
Gen 6 maybe my favorite.
Let me explain .. for some reason I loved absolutely loved ever even number games
1, 2,4, 6,8
I didn't like 3, 5,7 and hated this new gen 9….
Ok but HG and SS absolutely introduced lore of previous games into its games with the Sinjoh Ruins events. There was also so much lore that was scattered throughout the game that connected Sinnoh and Johto. And you know what? It didnt infringe on the lore in the slightest for the Johto region. In fact in my opinion, it brought Johto into the modern timeline seamlessely.
Why was this update to lore succesful while ORAS seemingly convuluted things? Its because all these lore aspects didnt infringe on the base game's gameplay. If they really wanted Megas in ORAS they should have just made them a post game thing, something players can pursue even after beating the base game. Maybe a character from the Kalos region could have introduced the phenomena of mega evolution to Johto only after the playet beats the game. Maybe even a special event like the Sinjoh ruins event.
Regardless, they didnt need to lean so heavily into mega lore in ORAS just because mega evolution was so popular. They should have kept the HGSS template and made new lore post game exploration or at least inconsequential story bits throughout the base game. This is what i was really hoping with BDSP. I firmly believe had they kept the model of remakes they were using before ORAS, they would have made fantasic DP remakes. I mean imagine, gigantamax sinnoh pokemon! Or maybe lore that connects Eternatus to Arceus!
I need a Pokémon Ranger for Switch and I don't care if the Switch is not comfortable enough to spin circles on the touchscreen
Wouldn’t mind a gen 1 and 2 remake where you start off in Kanto but then go to Johto second, would make for a nice twist
They should remake Gold 97 and give us the Nihon region for all of Japan.
I hope its not open world them it Will be ass
Lets pray that it wont be openworld 🙏😭💔
Just started my first play through of Pokémon y and I’m grown
Calling legends arceus revolutionary is very generous.
I hope to get a remake or legends/ sequel or whatever to be set in alola since its my favourite region in terms of story, ultra beasts Battle gimmicks (Z-moves and mega evolution) and characters and stuff
Ive noticed. Its always half, except gen 3 remaking gen 1 but u cant half 3, gen 4 had gen 2 remakes, gen 6 had gen 3 remakes and gen 8 had gen 4 remakes. I think we will get gen 5 remakes in gen 10 or a new bw game like bw3 in gen 10 either
i don’t know if people agree but i am super excited to have a nintendo switch xy remake and bringing back mega evolution
I completely agree, despite the mixed reception to BDSP gen 4 has gotten the best treatment for revisiting an older generation yet, and they should definitely continue that trend. Hopefully next year along with legends ZA we get a crystal remake with new mechanics. But my first game was black 2 so I’m still holding out hope that in the next few years we get a faithful gen 5 remake, potentially both games in one
Not sure if Pokémon lore is exactly the issue…
Omega ruby alpha sapphire is the best remake hands down
6:14 – 7:44
The whole thing about BDSP being "faithful" was just a corporate way to say that they're selling crap without being straight about it.
Even a child could see that.
They need to stop remaking and just make a huge game where you can go to all islands all pokemon. EVERYTHING open world. swim/fly/climb. Choice of any mount of mountable choices. I wanna ride my dragons I wanna swim with my gyarados. Like they are a MULTI
BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY and you’re telling me yall can’t achieve this? Make an online open world with EVERYTHING just update it every so often and provide DLCs but that would be the GAME OF GAMES OF ALL TIME! 💪
