Zelda 64 Recompiled: A Revolution In N64 Native Ports For PC

We’ve seen recompilation projects before – and Nintendo 64 titles have received more than their fair share of them – but Zelda 64 Recompiled takes this to the next level. Alex Battaglia goes in depth on Zelda 64 Recompiled, essentially a new native PC port of Majora’s Mask, reveals how it works, how accurate it is, how modern hardware offers so many more options and looks forward to what this project means for N64 games on PC going forward.

  1. I had this game originally…but I don't recall where I got it and I never actually played it. So, I'm playing through it for the first time using this recompiled, and it's absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait for OoT Recompiled (although the Ship of Harkinian build is pretty flawless).

  2. Any chance you take a look at the Goemon 64 Recompilation that just got released?

  3. I know this huge for N64 BUT I would prefer to see the 3DS versions in high res with rtx because they were SO beautiful already on the 3DS.

  4. So my biggest question is because its.. well a recomp, would it still be possible to patch it the same way as regular roms? Like for example (since its similar, and also because majoras doesnt have as much of this afaik) lets say we had a recomp of oot, and i wanted to also add in the 3ds style texture mod, AND THEN patched with one of the popular romhacks, like missing link, sealed palace, indigo, etc. Would that still be possible with a recomp? And would the way to patch it be the same method? Just wondering if anyone has tried that yet and gotten results

  5. Thanks for drawing attention to it.
Now Nintendo is going to send them a C&D.
And probably sue them for good measure.
    Well done guys :/

Honestly, the sheer stupidity of these big-name youtubers.

  6. It's too bad this and Mario64 require you to download a bunch of extra bullshit to run it on your PC.

  7. Whatever people have said about nintendo should hire so and so asset flipper in unreal in the past, I truly, genuinely think this would be a crazy good investment from the big N's end of things, using it to replace n64 emulation for nso in future!

  8. GREETINGS DIGITAL FOUNDRY, GOOD VIDEO, I HAVE A PROBLEM, WHEN I CLICK ON THE ZELDA 64 EXECUTABLE THE FOLLOWING APPEARS: AN ERROR HAS BEEN ENCOUNTERED ON STARTUP: UNABLE TO FIND COMPATIBLE GRAPHICS DEVICE, WHY DOES THIS APPEAR?

  9. for the love of god we need F-zero X !!! goldeneye and perfect dark.

i love F-zero x so much. remember when i first got it when i was little. probably the reason why im a metal head now lol

  10. We need Conker Bad Fur day… Hope they find a way to make this more generic so games with smaller communities get their chance.

  11. Hoping they can make a golden eye 64 recomp. Would love the mods for that game and resolution! Mouse and Keyboard would be a godsend!

  12. I hope we eventually get PS1 decomp as I would love to see games Like Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy VII get PC ports without the issues of their current ones.

  13. this has to be one of the craziest things ive ever seen. its extra crazy for me because like 2 weeks ago i started Turing Complete and The Farmer was Replaced on steam so I now actually understand the idea of Decompiling an assembly language and recompiling it into C. I'm actually able to use recently acquired knowledge to further understand a new development on something i love. I feel like a goddamn child again

  14. I wonder if this can be done for Gamecube and Wii games as well, they work fine in emulators but there's always something screwing up like crackling audio, visual bugs, etc

  15. N64 with low res is the best way to play imo. Let’s your mind get creative and your imagination will fill in the gaps, brings me back to being a kid lol. it also masks the low detail (no pun intended) so the blocky, blurry textured are less jarring. It was how the game was originally designed to be played , so the hud, textures, and models all look natural and cohesive and if im being honest actually look pretty good together instead of ultra high fidelity models, with 32×32 hud elements and textures that have been steamrolled and left out in the sun for 8 months sticking out like a sore thumb lol

Edit: i will say one thing about the n64 audio. In the comparison, its really crackly and has some strange audio artifacts that aren’t present on the original control deck. Not sure what’s going on, but i play my n64 whenever i can, and i’ve never had any problems with audio aside from like compression or actual sound file related stuff. Not really sure, im not an audiophile

  16. Can't wait until Retroarch or something similar will be able to take roms from every console, and immediately spit out PC ports with minor issue… Oh what a dream
