  1. The announcement of a new Atelier is always a big moment <3 I've been playing every Atelier and Gust game since Rorona on PS3, and moments like these are always so special. I'm so glad we're getting back on track with a new console Atelier game coming out at the beginning of the year! I have fond memories of waiting for the new yearly Atelier coming out around March.

Story-wise, this actually reminds me of Resleriana. In Resleri you have villains (or more like "antagonists" since some of them look like they might be "grey characters" and that's great), and you usually don't have such J-RPG-like villains in Atelier games. Even in Ayesha, you don't have some big villain to defeat (at least not a living person). This actually didn't feel "darker"/more mature to me when I watched the trailer, but that's probably only because I'm playing Resleri and the story can get quite dark (well "heavy" is a better word, dark is something else).

I love both the Arland kind and the Dusk kind of Atelier. I love the cozy/laid-back classic Atelier vibes, but I also loved the more epic/J-RPG-like vibes in Ayesha (that still had the classic Atelier formula).

Yumia looks like it will be yet something else. I don't feel Dusk vibes, I certainly don't feel Arland/Mysterious vibes, and it's not exactly the same vibes as Ryza, I guess it would feel the closest to Resleri right now.

As long as it's still Gust making it, I'm faithful that the core of the game will remain "Atelier" even if it's more "J-RPG-like" or whatever this will be.

I'm confident there will be party members like always. We just didn't seem them yet in this first trailer, because it's a short first trailer (almost more like a teaser with this short length), they're keeping the party members reveal for the next trailer I'm sure.

As a die hard Gust fan I know that they are the king of character depth and half of the content of an Atelier game is actually character cutscenes that you trigger when entering a new map in the town and where you bond with the party members etc. There is no way Gust would remove that.

Even in the prospect of a single-member Action-RPG (which I don't believe will be the case), it is 100% sure that there is going to be a lot of "nakama" characters who you will be able to bond with.

Unless this turns out to be some black sheep in the Atelier series and the world is ending, haha. But nah, Gust will always remain Gust. And KT will always give them the freedom to make the games they want to make (hopefully).

As for turn-based vs action (still with party members), I personally would prefer turn-based but I play Action-RPGs too so I won't mind either way.

About alchemy, I have no doubts that alchemy will still be at the core of the gameplay and I wish that it would be more complex like the Mysterious games for example. I love to spend hours making the perfect item with the perfect traits, to be able to synthesize more powerful items ahead of time and win a boss battle I was meant to lose (Keithgriff in early Ayesha), etc.

But I'll still enjoy it even if it's not as complex.

About exploration… I'm a big fan of the exploration spirit in Totori and Firis, and even Ryza 3 was quite good in that regard with its "open world". If Yumia is open world and calls for exploration, I'll have a great time with that!

About the seiyuus… I knew I recognized that voice!! I played Yakuza Like a Dragon and its sequel Infinite Wealth so I know Kiryu. This sounds SO like him omg!! Awesome!

The other voices sound great too.

I love the focus on "Memories" (FF9 is my favorite game), yes our soul is shaped by our memories and powerful experiences all throughout our life!!

When I heard the first line "To those in the distant future hearing this message", I immediately thought that it's like Gust carving a message in a stone with their games, to make it timeless and for players in the future to keep discovering these games and playing them, and experiencing these stories and seeing these positive and wholesome messages. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but I just love to try to look for the meaning in things.

About the morals/messages… This sounds like it's Gust alright! Yes there are as many "rights" as there are individuals, some are kind and some are vile, and there are some that "you can't forgive" as this trailer says. The idea of "justice" and "fighting for what's right" is prominent in the story of this trailer and I like it. I've experienced my fair share of injustices and I always wish that you could beat the bad guys irl like these protags are doing in J-RPGs lol.

Maybe Yumia will be less laid-back and more serious in its story and messages. As a J-RPG gamer I sure don't mind, but as an Atelier fan, I do understand the concerns of many. I secretely wish that we would get an Arland-like Atelier again (or even a Mysterious-like). Dusk was so unique in the way that it was a darker/more epic Atelier, but still being an "Atelier" somehow.

Maybe Yumia could pull it off too. I'll have to wait and see.

Or maybe it will be laid-back and it's just this trailer that was designed to be more "epic".

About the character design… I like everything except for the straps on the big boobs/fanservice. I'm not into fanservice so I wished that they would return to Dusk or even pre-Sophie 2 Mysterious style… But nope, it's going to be full Ramizel lol. Looks like they're keeping the Ryza route. Although as long as it's not as fanservice-y as Resleriana I'll be fine. In Resleri you just have so many characters will utterly big boobs/leotards/justaucorps and thick thighs, and I'm not even talking about the jiggling. Interestingly, there is some slight jiggling in Yumia in the Nintendo version of the trailer at 0:31, but not in the PS5 version (or maybe it's only due to the different framerate?)

About the main art… Of course they were going to add some fanservice and I guess it would be delusional to wish for something like the old times in this day and age. I just miss the Arland days, for example Totori's main art has zero fanservice, it was just gorgeous, and tasteful all the same. Sure Kishida Mel put a semi-transparent skirt on Totori, but I like to think it was more "his unique tasteful art style" than "putting it on purpose for fanservice reasons" like this bum here or everything that we see in a lot of games nowadays. But it's still not as over-the-top as some Ryza arts so… I will not complain about this. I will say that I am nostalgic about a different time though (even if that will make me sound like an old geezer lol).

Overall this is exciting even though there as some aspects I'm not a fan of.

As an Atelier & Gust fan I know I will be getting this day one and probably take days off work just for it. I know I will appreciate it and take the most out of it just like I did with the previous ones.

Looking forward to the next trailers!!

Also I won't be able to catch the livestream on September 2nd but I'll watch it when I can.

  2. I've watched this so many times I'm just so excited! I'm currently playing thru sophie after finishing the secret series :3

  3. I would've loved for the Atelier games to have dual-audio options with both English and Japanese dubs. I know it's not for everyone, but I for one always choose English dubs in games.

  4. Ahh yes a fine addition to my collection..the only game i bought and play couple of hours and never finished because i cant commit my time playing 😂😂😂 i even bought all three ryza 😂😂😂

  5. keep making these games just for the chinese come and steal them turn them into mobile games and make billions
    good job japan
