  1. I cannot stress this enough, you don't want to use the system administrator account as your daily driver. You become significantly more vulnerable to malware for even having that account enabled, and if you do somehow get infected with malware, it becomes easier for said malware to affect protected system files. If you do anything important on your PC, it's not worth the performance gains.

  2. This got a lot crazier, the latest version of Win 11 24H2 gives All ryzen Zen3/4/5 CPUs 10% on average additional performance (up to 30% in some games)

To think that all that performance was left on the table for years is crazy to me!

  3. The issue with the local admin account is that many Windows Store Style apps stop working. On my Razer Blade the THX app that controls the sound of the internal speakers is no longer working. On an MSI motherboard the utility that controls the fans wasn't even starting up. On a Legion Go the Legion Space app won't save your library settings and the right quick access button that opens, well, Legion Space, also does nothing.

  4. I did say, Zen 5 is actually really good. For those who where able to test proces outside of a windows machine we saw how these cpu are monsters.. SUDO users in Ubuntu realised this

  5. Hardware unboxed, evidently, has a sound testing methodology but I don't see a lot of curiosity coming from their front man regarding the results of testing.

I, for one, am less anxious to label claims from chip manufacturers lies unless the lies are provable, that is a deceptive pattern is provable, and AMD doesn't have Intel's form in that regard.

Now, Hardware Unboxed is entitled to live within the limits that it sets for itself. But, the results for Zen 5 have been anomalous and putting those anomalies down to a thought like AMD makes chips for servers and business workloads shows that lack of curiosity that I find troubling. That just explains things away and avoids a proper and deeper investigation into what is causing the results.

Some outfit is going to look deeper and do a compelling diagnosis of the issues. If Zen 5 is ever to perform at the level that AMD claimed it would expect some thorny issues around Windows scheduling and security and the quality of Zen 5 BIOS microcode to be worked out first.

  6. I have been using Homeworld 3 as a test myself as it's surprising consistent originally I got 39fps min, admin account 42fps then de-bloated win 11 which increased the min fps to 41fps, and 44fps under admin account. Under Windows 11 beta 24H2 (be-bloated) I get 48fps, 23% performance uplifts is not nothing! and I am using a much cheaper 4070Ti Super and at 1440×3440 vs your RTX4090 at 1080p. Same settings otherwise with epic settings, TAAU, Ray traying.

  7. "Sir, I'm sorry you're having performance issues, are you running the game using the TrustedInstaller?"

  8. You can make your local admin have same admin rights as hidden admin. Simply done by right clicking your drive (c drive) goto security tab. Click on your user profile. Goto advance settings. There you can add additional permissions and make yourself the system admin (owner) of that drive. Can do this for each drive. Depending on size, drive type, and amount of data on drive, it may take a while to process once you hit apply. Been doing this for years in order to delete unwanted old files that were unable to delete because I was not considered owner of those files.

  9. By bug, you mean feature, right? The Wintel cartel has been caught repeatedly creating code to degrade AMD cpus. Starting with Windows 95/98/millenium calculating the date of every Tuesday for a couple hundred years on every mouse click with the AMD K6 processors. Every times Intel falls behind, Micro$oft start finding weird โ€œbugsโ€ with AMD processors that โ€œsomehowโ€ degrade performance significantly. They did it with the K6, the K7 and now at least twice with the Ryzens.

  10. This video is kind of half arsed. If this is communicated as a Windows Bug. Then where is the Linux OS comparison? At least one Linux Distro should have been tested, even if its just Steam OS. Or probably that would have been the best test example to begin with!

Complaining about smelly water, but keep sipping the same water out of a different toilet in the same house is not a good comparison…. just like this example.

  11. 2 years ago I found that running exes as administrator improves CPU performance by 5-10% on a 9900k. Guru3D folks have known this since then. It applies to both Intel and AMD. You don't need to use an administrator account. You just need to run the exe as administrator. You can google the Guru3d thread where we have been discussing this for 2 years ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Did you also ask AMD why Zen 5 provides little to no performance gain over Zen 4? Surely someone there could be candid and say "yeah, we were expecting better". Has the Zen architecture peaked?
