11:00 Definitely a difficult pause-the-video moment, but I got it right by pure process of elimination. I certainly could not see enough to understand how Rd1+ draws, but every other move I thought of for black I felt 100% certain my calculations were correct in how it was losing, so I assumed I was missing some resource for black in my Rd1+ calculations and went with that. Not a very satisfying way to get the right answer, and I would definitely screw it up over the board in a real game.
Definitely, game of this Olympiad.

Does anyone know who the seconds will be? It seems Wei Yi would be a great choice for Ding Liren. Gukesh has a number of Super GM's to pick from.
At what point are players required to not record moves because I can imagine in a sub 1 minute time situation that would be almost impossible

Quite accurate play from both players but definitely wouldn't call this the game of the olympiad. Nothing really spectacular happened.

The Knight pair is straight sickening.
I think after Txa4 instead of Ta3+ Tf4 would be a draw. The Rook must sacrifice himself for the pawn and two knights cannot mate. Black must only try to get rid of his own pawn.
The thing that sets Magnus Carlsen apart is his risk appetite to push through games where most GM's would agree to a draw. This is what is required to get on Magnus' level. If Gukesh continues his hunger, he just might reach that level..
