Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 – PS5/Xbox Series X|S/PC Tech Review – Is 60FPS Viable on Consoles?

We return to the final build of developer Saber’s impressively realised take on the Warhammer 40K universe – where locking at 60FPS is a true challenge on today’s consoles. PS5 and Series X offer two modes: the curiously labelled Speed mode (for 60FPS performance), and a 30FPS quality mode – of which the latter is the more stable choice. On PC there’s a huge range of options, and the sky is the limit – though a powerful CPU is recommended in dealing with the game’s high level of on-screen enemies. Alex and Tom link up for an in-depth look at the current state of play.

  1. Duh the CPU on X runs at 3.8 PS5 3.5. but since the PS5 shifts power the CPU runs max cause GPU to lower its clock. The series X has fixed speed on both …

  2. Why do they want a PS5? It makes no sense, it's one of the worst consoles in history, pure marketing

  3. This game has the most and smoothest enemies on the screen at one time that ive seen on this current gen of consoles. The graphics arent as good as others, but the overall horde gameplay makes up for it. Great game

  5. This doesn't answer my question… if i have a PS5 which mode should I run it? quality? or speed mode? if the speed mode get's 30fps sometimes, but the quality mode gets stable 30fps… should I put it in quality mode instead?

  6. I love this game but the optimization for ps5 is rough. Hopefully they can patch it out soon

  7. wait what? i'm playing this game on Ultra Preset, 1080p Native (i play in a DELL S2721HS), FSR only for Anti Aliasing, Vsync (the game runs at 60 fps locked, without Vsync it runs up to 70-72 fps) and Dynamic Res target is set to 30 FPS; my setup is a i5 12600k, 32 gb of ddr5 cl32 6400, crucial t500 Gen4 nvme and a XFX swft 210 RX 7600 non XT, the monitor does have free sync but i try yo limit games to 60 fps to limit how much i stress the GPU, XFX cheap coolers run really hot (the card hotspot always hit 100c and the overall is always at 85c with the default curve, and the fans are really loud at 100%), i hope this information helps some one pick the right gear without over expending.

  8. DRS doesn't work on a 240hz 1080p screen with a 90fps target. V-SYNC ON. It's always just unlocked at native 1080p. Shame I wanted to use it to get to a stable 90 fps line.

  9. With my rig of 4080 super and 7800x3d I never go below 100fps at max settings.

  10. The PS5 has a GPU with 36 CUs giving a total of 10.28 TFLOPS and the Xbox Series X has a GPU with 52 CUs giving a total of 12 TFLOPS.

The Xbox Series X has the more powerful CPU also with SMT and without SMT.

Also Xbox Series X has a wider memory bus at 320 bit thus Memory Bandwidth at 560 GB/s vs PS5 being 256 bit and 448 GB/s bandwidth.

  11. Kudos to the devs for this. The game runs amazing. I have a 3080 and I have the game at almost Max settings and I'm easily getting above 60 frames per second. Meanwhile, the new hunt showdown update, I can barely put my settings at mid and the game chugs, and yet digital foundry gave them so many compliments in their interview with Hunt showdown, even though that game engine brings my computer to its knees and space Marine 2 looks just as good and flies on my machine. So I don't really get it…….

  12. Due to the game's demands and the fact that the Xbox Series X and PS5 don't maintain 60 fps, especially the PS5, I think it's understandable that the Series S doesn't have a 60 fps mode and the game looks acceptable on the console, but I have some questions, something I've also seen in other questions:

    1. Is the FSR in the Series and PS5's performance mode in 4k? So could the Series S also be in 4k in its unique mode, if the studio wanted?

    2. At 3:23 is this a comparison between the Series X and S or between the Series X in quality vs performance mode? If it's the Series S, I think it's as stated in the video, it's a version with similar graphics, but due to the difference in resolution and zoom, this difference will be more noticeable, correct?
