The New Budget Handheld For 2024

Today I’m taking a look at a handheld that I’ve been using for the past few weeks and from my experience see it as the best handheld you can buy right now for 70 dollars or less.

  1. I bought a 351M a few years ago. It made me a believer in Anbernic. That thing is the best most premium GBA emulator ever.

I just ordered the RG556. Gonna play some Gamecube and Ps2 games.

  2. I just have a hard time justifying anything over $50 for this when a switch lite can be bought for $150 new and even less used

  3. Awesome video! I was 20 when the original Game Boy dropped, 21 for Sega Game Gear. Fast forward to now, and I'm so completely blown away by how far hand helds have come. Played consoles my entire life but didn't own my first hand held until my late 40's when I picked up a GPD XD+. Now at 55 I just picked up the RG 556 and holy crap is this grey owl in gaming heaven! It's so great! I currently have it set up with over 4400 arcade and retro console games stored internally as well as a 480 PS2 game SD card that never leaves the slot. I just can't believe one hand held can store and play so much for such a great price. Playing my all time favorite PS2 games again like MOH Frontline and Contra Shattered Soldier is amazing.

  4. I think i will just get a M-con shell for my smartphone or play using Lemuroid emulator

  5. At this point of course you’d get the rg40xx , bigger screen, better ergo… however this is more pocketable and the sp exists 🙂

  6. Most of psp games work nicely, its my primary psp/ps1 device currently and I love it.

  7. I just want a small device like this that can play older title games like fallout 3 or fable 1-2. And fix the thumb stick positions

  8. I love the device and I purchased it through AliExpress at most. I paid exactly $50.32 and that is with shipping took about 2 1/2 weeks to come to me. You will have to install the N64 ROMs, but it’s such an easy process. Thanks spawnwave for confirmation.

  9. I have been interested in these handhelds for about a year or 2 now but haven’t gotten one. I am highly interested in the SP version of this because I owned a GBA SP in the past. Unless a better version of this comes out later, I may finally get into the retro handheld world.

  10. Pretty good video but I feel like you didn’t give us alot of info. Like what resolutions where you using on the different systems, Was frameskip turned on for anything, did you have any filters applied. What emulators where you choosing for each system. That kinda thing.

  11. This is so underpowered. I wouldn't consider anything under a T610 nowadays. RG405V, RP3+, 2S… So many options that play everything up to dreamcast out of the box.

  12. Damn so many handhelds in the market! I remember as a kid a few kids had the gameboy color and few years ds and psp, i couldnt get one cause i was poor! but one day some one gift me with a psp that was another world for me, so amazing! Sadly i have to sell it because we needed the money LOL! Im still poor, but i work i dont make much to be honest. But i hope i can save something so i can buy a handheld that can run psp at least, any recommendations?

  13. The 2024 ANBERNIC RG CUBE [AN Anbernic RG556 "MINI" ESSENTIALLY] is a small xbox controller form factor that is a Android 13-powered gadget that has a 3.95-inch IPS touchscreen (720×720) with a 1:1 display ratio. The octa-core processor (Unisoc T820 Chip) mated to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM is supported by an 850MHz GPU capable of producing 1080p resolution visuals at an impressive 120fps. The buck doesn’t stop there as RG Cube has 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage with expandable storage of up to 2TB via a MicroSD card. For extended gaming hauls, the handheld boasts a battery life of 7 hours courtesy of the 5200mAh battery life. The in-built fan provides active cooling when things get too hot. Most gamers should love this compact gaming player since it has RGB lighting effects, a gyroscope sensor, a vibration motor, D-Pad input, action buttons, shoulder triggers, and Hall Effect joysticks that should last long without any malfunctions. Playing classic games on this one will be a treat with the stereo speakers in-built, USB-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack for purists. Emulation in this handheld can handle most retro consoles including: Switch, PS2, GameCube, Wii, Nintendo 3DS, and Dreamcast.

  14. A few years ago, i was interrested to buy a handhelt emulation machine, but ambernic was puting its logo in big letters right under the screen. I thought it was horrible so i just stoped thinking of buying such machine. But now, they are sleek, powerful, the third party software is good. I ordered a 35xx plus. I will get a landscape one with joystick when it will be able to do PS2 era.

  15. Love my 35XXH,it works flawlessly up to PS1. I actually bought this to tide me over until I would buy a new Analogue Pocket and now I have decided to just keep this as GBA actually works unlike the pocket – regardless of FPGA vs software emulation.

  16. 👀, I have both God's of War and I play them in 30 fps. Go to PSPs settings turn off both auto frame skip and frame skipping. Then go down to skip buffered effects and check it. 😎

  17. Once you buy those convenient hand-held gadgets, you won't stop at just one.

I bought an RG 405v and then bought a 505. Both consoles have the same software and hardware. The only difference is the screen size—one is vertical.

  18. There was only a brief mention of the SP flip screen model in the end. Would've been maybe good to show how it looks like because so many people really like that form factor. Not that it matters really but I see it as a newer version of this one.

  19. 3DS + custom firmware = better than all these and you probably already have a 3DS

  20. I actually want Jon to look inside the Ayn Odin 2. I've been contemplating to buy one for a while now, so watching a teardown while I'm still saving money for it would be great.

  21. Really don't see the point of this when I can use RetroArch Emulator on my phone with a decent Bluetooth Controller. 😒

  22. Will the RG35XX H play any of the “Pro Pinball” games for PS1? I couldn’t get them to run on the Miyoo Mini Plus with OnionOS. Maybe this new Anbernic candy bar is powerful enough to handle those games?? I’m interested to find out.

  23. prices dropped so much quikly, got a RG35XX-2024 for 34 euro's shipped, its so good, even plays dreamcast games well.

  24. Got mine for $40 dollars on tik tok. It should be here in a couple of hours, ill make sure to edit this and say my honest thoughts

  25. You should look at the RG Cube – it’s a handheld emulator that can run up to PS2 and gamecube games (x1.5-2 resolution) for under $200.
